Story of My Life

by Nicole on September 12, 2011

The story of my life (well, for the past week), has been non-stop work, wedding, workouts, and nesting. Last week I took a much needed break from my formal job, but it was nothing like past staycations. When I woke up this morning to get ready for work, I couldn’t help but wish it were Friday already—I’m ready for a break! I probably overdid it last week, but sometimes you just have to take care of biznass.

Since sitting in front of a computer and talking on the phone isn’t very photographic, I needed a little help from Paint.

Btw, Pinterest is the new Google. When I need ideas or inspiration, I just search Pinterest and within seconds I’m pinning hairstyles, wedding makeup ideas, dining room color schemes, and DIY projects. It’s the most pleasurable way to explore the internet.

During business hours, I interspersed hours on the computer with hours on the phone. This is the challenge of having your own business, but I am not complaining. Fortunately I accomplished my work-related objectives by mid-week. I’m afraid of what may have happened had I spent one more day dialing through phone menus and being put on hold (I have Blue Cross Blue Shield’s hold song memorized—it gives nightmares Winking smile).

madmen

When I began to grow weary, I found back-to-back episodes of Mad Men to be wonderfully motivating. After watching a few episodes in a row, I began to develop a strong desire to chain smoke and through back shots of scotch. And, I’ve been thinking how fun the office would be if everyone could drink all day! Jk. The 1950’s were a very different time.

Several of my staycation goals required little to no movement, but I made daily exercise a priority. Since I began working on my wedding body, the most significant change to my workout routine has been the addition of serious weight lifting. I’ve really enjoyed the results and like feeling strong! Even though I wasn’t looking for a new challenge, I decided to train for a half-marathon with Caitlin. This will be the first official half-marathon I’ve run in several years. With only 7 weeks to train, I’ve had to hit the ground…..er, running. I do have a history of running injuries and would be lying if I didn’t admit feeling a little fear. But setting up my running schedule in a Google Doc makes it real and official!

ikea

Finally, Isaac and I rounded out the week with some serious nesting. After moving into our new apartment 2 weekends ago and then having a wedding party the following weekend, most of the boxes had been left untouched. So, it was time to invest hours into unpacking, cleaning, and organizing. And after a focused trip to Ikea we are no longer giving the neighbors an x-rated show for free. I’m sure they are very happy. Maybe this is why nobody has welcomed us to the neighborhood yet…

As always, a week off of work means a week or two of catch-up. But if I can make it through this upcoming week from hell, I will be rewarded with an epic bachelorette party!

Well, that’s all I got for one night. I’m off to bed, but I will leave you with my favorite Pinterest find. Enjoy!

I love all the pictures you made! Very cool. Also agree work would be better with drinking all day… though I do teach kindergarten so it probably would not be safe!

I’m scared to try Pineterest. I don’t need another addiction, but I already feel like I’m missing out!

So exciting you’re doing a 1/2!
