Accidents Happen

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen that I was in a car accident.

I’ve been in a few small fender benders, but nothing like what happened Thursday. Basically, I was at a complete stop preparing to turn onto the street where I live when the other car smashed into the back of me. Since I didn’t see it coming, I was caught off guard and it took several minutes to process what had just happened.  Once my brain caught up, my first thought was, “Dammit, this is the last thing I want to deal with today”. Then I proceeded to do all the important things one should do after an accident:

  • Call 911.
  • Cry like a baby while talking to the dispatcher.
  • Tweet that you’ve just been in an accident.
  • Rip through papers in glove compartment looking for proof of insurance for 2011.
  • Yell curse words because you can only find proof of insurance for years 2006-2010. Not useful.
  • Vow to be more organized.
  • Call fiancé. When he doesn’t answer, continue calling—psycho ex-girlfriend style.

Thankfully for my sanity, the cop finally showed up and did his thing before sending me on my way. My car was still drivable, which is more then I can say for the other car. However, I did have to rip the bumper off so it wouldn’t drag on the ground or hit the tire. Let’s just say that bumpers do a lot for the look of a car.

Since my trunk wouldn’t stay closed I had to get creative with twine. I think the twine gives my car a certain je ne sais quoi! N’est-ce pas?

As far as injuries go, nobody was seriously hurt. Thankfully! At least I don’t think so. I have a bruise on my arm and my neck is very sore. Fingers crossed it won’t turn into anything more. In the meantime, I’m milking the heck out of my “injured” arm. Winking smile

After spending all day dealing with car crap, insurance companies, and having my neck assessed by Dr. Matz (who graciously worked me into his schedule—thanks Jen & Jeff), I’m currently driving a rental car and hoping the repair process goes smoothly.

Moral of the story: drive carefully, folks!

Now that I wasted one entire day of my weekend on non-fun stuff, I’m off to make up for lost time! Happy weekend!

That sucks! I’m so sorry! Care accidents are the worst. I had two accidents happen to my former car last year, neither of which were my fault, and the second totaled my car. I hope your insurance company is as good to you as mine was to me! 🙂

My car is in the process of getting better and my neck is feeling less sore. But I just made another appointment to visit your husband. 🙂

Glad to hear you are OK! Please don’t let this get you down! Good things are just around the corner (but check both ways before you cross!)

lol….Once I got through the initial hassle with insurance and what not, I was ok. Driving around in a brand new rental car helps ease the pain. 🙂

I’m glad no one was hurt but wrecks are such a pain to deal with. Sorry you had to spend part of your weekend doing that!

The exact same thing happened to me right before I moved to Charlotte. Actually, I was stopped and could see the lunatic coming towards me in my rear view and realized she wasn’t slowing down and was going to hit me, which was awful! Glad you are ok and hope you have a better time than I did sorting out the insurance mess of getting your car repaired. That was more painful than the accident!

That is awful…..I’m kinda glad I didn’t see the lady coming. So far the insurance companies and repair stuff is going ok. They accepted complete responsibility, but we will see what happens with my car. I have a feeling it is totalled.
