Friday Potential

by Nicole on August 20, 2010

I love Friday because it is full of possibilities. Sometimes I go to hot yoga at 6:30am on Friday, but that wasn’t happening since I stayed up very late last night. YMCA yoga at 9am was a better option.

Next, I got my hair did at the Aveda Institute.

Pre-Haircut

I should have had more cut off so it would actually look a little different. Oh well, I’ll have after photos later.

After my haircut I was super hungry because I didn’t eat breakfast before yoga. I headed to Isaac’s house to wake him up and raid his fridge. It was almost noon and I wasn’t feeling breakfasty. I decided to go with tofu and broccoli. My tofu skills have improved lately thanks to tips from Emily at The Front Burner.

Here’s what I did:

1. Wrap tofu in a clean dish towel to drain for 10 minutes.

2. Slice & dice.

3. I use cooking spray to cut down on the fat + you can give the pan a quick shot if the tofu starts to stick.

3. I like to flavor my tofu with Bragg’s Liquid Aminos and Tamari. This stuff can be salty, so don’t over do it.

Isaac is putting the final touches on his breakfast: Oatmeal! He should be the blogger in this story! ;)

4. Let the cooked tofu cool on a plate while you quickly stir-fry some broccoli.

5. Assemble tofu and brocolli and serve with a side of plain goat yogurt for dipping (sounds gross, but I promise it’s tasty).

Et Voila!

Isaac made stove-top oats with water and topped with a splash of rice milk, goat yogurt, and maple syrup!

Darn blurry picture!

We enjoyed our food while watching House Hunters–!

Have you ever made tofu? If not, what’s stopping you? If so, how do you flavor yours?

Awesome! It’s my favorite way to make it too, and I LOVE Bragg’s!

I love your tofu tutorial–it has changed my tofu-cooking life. When I was making tofu yesterday, I stepped away so I wouldn’t be tempted to shake the pan. Before I know it, my boyfriend is flipping the tofu with a spatula. Ahhh…I yelled at him to stop and admonished him for ruining the browning process. Maybe I overreacted! ;)
